Chapin believes that students' physical, intellectual, and emotional lives are interconnected. This tenet serves as a steadfast guide in our approach to interscholastic athletics, fitness, and health and wellness.
Our program encourages participation for all students and offers a distinct opportunity to cultivate leadership qualities, develop essential sport skills and experience the spirit of competition. We strive for personal fulfillment, while deepening integrity, resilience, and respect for oneself and others. Our athletic community celebrates and fosters a sense of belonging and a love of sport.
Chapin’s commitment to excellence through a multi-faceted approach to athletics fortifies our students' ability to thrive and lead in their lives beyond 100 East End Avenue.
WINTER SPORTS UPDATE: In compliance with NYSAISAA and NYSPHSAA guidance and further considerations of all AAIS member schools we have decided to cancel the traditional winter season to ensure the health and safety of all.
Despite the loss of our competition season, we are able to offer several Upper and Middle School programs that promote sports skills growth and fitness/wellness both at Chapin and remotely.
This modified winter program will begin November 30.
Students in Classes 5-8 can compete in Middle School sports. Class 7/8 sport commitment is 3 days a week and Classes 5/6 meet twice a week. There are no try outs for any Middle School sport, all are welcome! For more information, click here.
Students in Classes 9-12 can try out for all Varsity and Junior Varsity sports. Class 8 students can try out if they pass the Athletics Placement Process. Upper School sports commitment is 4-5 days a week with practice and games. For more information, click here.
Middle and Upper School students may participate in a range of individual and team sports. Our program supports the mission of our competitive league, The Athletic Association of Independent Schools (AAIS) and our state governing body, the New York Association of Independent Schools Athletic Association (NYSAISAA).
Chapin is committed to fostering a sound athletic program as an integral part of the total educational experience. Our teams foster the development of good sportsmanship, moral integrity, and athletic excellence.
As a founding member of the AAIS, Chapin competes against other league member schools: Berkeley Carroll, The Brearley School, Convent of the Sacred Heart, Friends Seminary, Hewitt School, Marymount School, Nightingale-Bamford School, Packer-Collegiate Institute, Saint Ann’s School and Spence School.
