Deborah Blenman-Green
Faculty Information
Deb holds an M.A. in Early Childhood Special Education from Lehman College, an M.S. in Education, and an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Bank Street College. During her career, Deb spent many years in the classroom as a special education teacher, and more recently, Head of School at Children's Academy, a school for children with speech and language delays.
Deb has a passion for learning about brain development, specifically neuropsychology and its impact on how children learn and develop. Her interest in this field over the years created the opportunity to be part of a team that launched a non-profit school for students with brain injuries and other brain-based disorders. Deb is currently on the Board of Trustees of Pathways School for Children, which serves students with various neurophysiological disorders. She is also a Special Education Adjunct Lecturer at CUNY Hunter College in the city of New York.
Deb was born in the small island of Barbados, where the community is paramount. She enjoys collaborating with others in the educational field and formed a leadership circle that originated as part of her research project on educational change at Bank Street. Her research focused on self-care practices for school leaders to improve efficacy. Her love of learning in a supportive community fostered an extension of the leadership circle and collegial inquiry with other educators outside of her cohort. This work continues to be meaningful in her growth as an educator.
