Chapin Athletics enjoyed another successful winter season! Our Varsity Basketball team advanced to the NYSAIS C Division semi-finals for the first time in school history! While the team fell to Riverdale, the season was one to remember. Ella Gershon ’25 scored her 1000th point mid-way through the season, finishing as the School's all-time leading scorer with 1,236 points!
Varsity Fencing athletes saw great individual success this season. Under the guidance of our incredible coaches, former Yale fencer Umi Sahu and current Olympian Maia Chamberlain, Kailyn Loo ’27 was named Champion in Saber, Grace Golen ’29 placed 8th in Saber; and Emi Party ’25 placed 8th in Foil at the ISFL (Independent Schools Fencing League) Individual Championships. The team also saw two individual medal winners at the Team Championships in February: Kaitlyn Loo ’27, 3rd overall (Saber) and Emi Party ’25, 8th overall (Foil).
Varsity Indoor Track & Field had great individual and team success, with eight school records being broken over the course of the season! The team finished 3rd at the AAIS Championships and boasted five medal winners: Arielle Gooden ’29, Caris Kojima ’26, Ayra Nicotra ’27, Georgette Sheeley ’29 and Fairfax Walker ’29. The team also had 14 athletes qualify for the NYSAIS Championships, with five individual medal winners. In addition, three student-athletes (Caris ’26, Fairfax ’29 and Georgette ’29) have qualified for Indoor Track & Field Nationals and will be competing against the best athletes in the country from March 13-15.
After defeating Hewitt to advance to the AAIS semi-finals, Varsity Squash ultimately fell to Spence after a hard-fought battle. The team was also selected to participate in the NYSAIS Tournament and we wish them the best of luck!
Varsity Swimming had a small but mighty team this season. Special kudos to Katie Hsu ’25, who placed 3rd in the 100m backstroke at the AAIS Championships!
Congratulations to all of our hardworking and dedicated athletes and their coaches!
