Dance Club 2026

Dance Club 2026

On March 5-7, our Upper School Dance Club took to the stage for their annual performance, offering attendees a stunning array of pieces.

The show featured 17 dances — all choreographed by students — including solos, duets and group performances. With a variety of styles and musical genres, everyone in the audience was wowed by the dancers. Keeping up a long-held tradition, the seniors closed out the show with a special dance, which, this year, was choreographed by Dance Club President and member of the Class of 2026, Vianli D.

Dance Club, which is in its 87th year as a club at Chapin, was led this year by Head of Upper School Arts Integration & dance teacher Sam Sherman ’05 and by Vianli and her classmate Maddie C. (Vice President).

Vianli, who has been a Dance Club member for all five years of Upper School, said she has loved the “different kinds of people I’ve met in my time here. Everyone has such a genuine curiosity for learning, and it's so evident in how everyone brings themself to rehearsal on Tuesdays.”

Maddie added that her favorite memory was this year’s final show. “We gathered in a circle for notes and the seniors were surprised with posters. It showed me how special it is to be part of such a supportive and tight-knit community. It is something that I will carry with me forever.”

Their experience was also shaped by their new leadership roles. “I want all club members to feel welcome in the space, regardless of prior dance experience,” Vianli said. “I've enjoyed being a friendly face to all outside of Dance Club and around the building.”

“Serving as Vice President has been such a meaningful experience for me,” added Maddie. “Being able to bring people across grades together over a shared passion and fostering the space for people to come together and just enjoy dancing has been so rewarding.”

Every student’s hard work and dedication was evident in their captivating performances! Congratulations to all on such a spectacular show and thank you to those who helped behind the scenes, including US drama teacher Robert Thaxton-Stevenson (Technical Direction and Lighting Design), US dance teacher Allyson Ross (Production/Stage Manager) and US students who assisted with running crew, lighting and sound.
