Our Planet, Our Promise: Book Fair 2019

On November 19 and 20, Chapin’s Parents’ Association transformed the Assembly Room into a book lover’s dream for the beloved annual Book Fair. With this year’s selected theme, “Our Planet, Our Promise,” as a guide the space was adorned with exquisite art pieces of all sizes created by Aurora Robson, an artist whose instillations are made extensively with plastic debris rescued from the waste stream. A serene ambiance was conveyed with soothing sounds of waterfalls and birds chirping.

After visits to classes from authors and Ms. Robson, the official Book Fair festivities began with an opening cocktail reception for parents on November 19. In addition to perusing the wide array of books, the night featured copious amount of appetizers, visiting authors signing copies of their books and remarks from Dr. Hayot who wished to express her gratitude.

The following day, students—some joined by their parents—got their chance to admire the enchanting space; select their own books; shop for Gator Gear; and meet some renowned authors. They gazed with awe, arms filled with books, as they browsed the multitude of titles, many of which detailed ways we can help save our planet.

It was another incredible feet for which the School would like to extend its sincerest thanks for the hard-working Book Fair Co-chairs, volunteers, and all who attended and supported this wonderful event. Another wholehearted thank you to all of the visiting authors: Tracey Baptiste, Marlen Bodden ’79, Tonya Bolden ’76, Teru Clavel, Alexandra Davis, Elizabeth Eulberg, Rachel Felder ’85, Alyson Gerber, Nadia Hohn, Tracy, Dana, Lori and Corky Pollan, Kayla Miller, Emma Otheguy, Joanne Ramos, Anica Mrose Rissi, Julie Satow, Courtney Sheinmel, Susan Wakeford Angard, Lauren Willig ’95 and Chelsea Clinton.
