Lower School Grandparents & Special Friends Day

Lower School Grandparents & Special Friends Day

Last Friday was an exciting day for our Lower School (LS) as they welcomed nearly 325 of their grandparents and special friends to the building! After a warm welcome from Head of School Suzanne Fogarty and Head of Lower School Thérèse Cruite, our guests headed up to the classrooms to join their students.

Guests of our Kindergarten and Class 1 students arrived bright and early to join Homerooms and co-curriculars. In the Kindergarten classrooms, special boxes filled with memories and meaningful objects created by the girls and their guests were shared with one another. Up one flight in the first grade Homerooms, guests joined in on the Class 1 Build project as the girls began construction on their innovative, sustainable and equitable playgrounds. Students and their visitors referenced the blueprints the girls had drawn up and used materials like cardboard, pipecleaners, pompoms, tape and glue to create small scale versions of their playgrounds.

Later in the morning, a second group of guests arrived to join Classes 2 and 3. The visitors enjoyed getting a window into the girls’ co-curriculars as they observed drama, art, dance and technology lessons. In their respective Homerooms, guests also got a peek into Class 2’s geometry unit and Class 3’s lessons on fractions.

The girls’ confidently led their visitors around the building showing them all the spaces where they learn, excitedly pointing out their work on display and engaging their guests in their studies. The grandparents and special friends were absolutely delighted to hear and see all that the students do each day here at Chapin!
