With infectious energy, a vigorous roster of events and a brand-new Chapin Gator, Homecoming 2019 – a cherished tradition – brought students, parents, professional community members and alumnae together in spectacular Green and Gold fashion. Following a sidewalk “Gator Gear” sale and an all-school Spirit Day, the official Homecoming schedule kicked off on Friday, September 20 with the cross-country team taking on Brearley in Central Park on a gorgeous day.
Later, community members from Chapin and Brearley streamed into the Brearley Field House for the junior varsity and varsity volleyball games. In between the contests, the Gator and Brearley’s mascot, the Beaver, led a boisterous pep rally where students of all ages (and many proud parents, faculty, staff and alumnae) got their distinctive school spirit on. The viewing stands erupted in celebration as each participating team, helped by their coaches, ran through a series of colorfully decorated banners. Chapin’s players and spectators also enjoyed belting out The School Song.
Homecoming activities and the beautiful weather continued on Saturday when Chapin’s varsity field hockey and soccer teams competed against Brearley at Asphalt Green. Waving pompoms and foam fingers in the warm air, fans cheered on the teams while enjoying an all-day barbecue, spirit wear and bake sales, a robotics demonstration and display, and, during halftimes, a mini dance-a-thon and Lower School “Fun Run.” Along with current students and families, a number of alumnae came out to root for Chapin and to enjoy a special alumnae breakfast.
Michelle Caywood, Chapin’s Director of Athletics, expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the PA Homecoming Committee, the Athletic Association, the Athletics and Physical Education Departments, Brearley, and, especially, all the devoted fans who showed up to cheer on our amazing athletes! Way to go, Gators!
