From Page to Stage: Celebrating Spring Performances

Upper School cast of Mamma Mia!

This spring, our students in each division have once again blown us away with their talents in the arts. From our youngest students performing original works to our eldest, bringing to life classic shows, each performance reminds us of the excellence under Chapin’s roof.

In Lower School, both Class 1 and Class 3 created skits, bringing life to their cross-divisional projects. In Class 1, the girls shared their Community Build performance and expo with the LS community and their parents through a play, creative songs and a 3D rendering of their fictional city community.

Throughout the year, Class 1 learned about all aspects of community infrastructure—they even went on neighborhood walks to observe various building facades. Then, with a lens of creativity, ingenuity and equity they began to create a Class 1 cityscape. Each student helped to construct buildings, playgrounds, trees, benches and vehicles that came together in the form of a miniature city that was displayed in Gym 6. They also helped design a cityscape backdrop for their skits and musical performances in the Assembly Room.

Also drawing on classroom learning, Class 3 welcomed families and special guests to Chapin for an interdisciplinary performance and project showcase titled, “Brave Voices, Bold Journeys." Through self-written bilingual skits and song and dance performances, students took the audience on a cross-country road trip to highlight their studies in Social Science and Spanish. This performance featured hand-drawn sets projected behind the students in each scene.

Afterwards, Class 3 brought their guests to the Library to explore their “Hall of Heroes” and non-fiction travel books. The Heroes exhibit featured student-created work honoring those in history who inspire them. The girls' books featured research on the geography, culture and resources of distinct regions across the U.S. which they explored in Social Studies. The space was filled with excited Class 3 fervently sharing their work with parents, friends and special guests.

Our Middle School performers in Class 6 immersed themselves in the world of magic, flying monkeys and talking animals by performing a classic: “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz." Their vibrant set, complete with a yellow brick road and an emerald green head of the Wizard, mirrored the talent and enthusiasm of the actresses. Class 6 let their passion and spirit shine as they brought the classic characters to life in our Black Box Theater.

In a transformed Assembly Room, our Upper School performers moved audiences with their rendition of “Mamma Mia!” These students took this famous story and mastered the emotional nuances and comedic timing of this classic production, sharing their dedication and talent on full display for the Chapin community. Songs like “The Winner Takes it All” and “Dancing Queen” brought the audience to its feet with resounding applause. With standout soloist serenades and high-energy, full-cast musical numbers, the show was a joy from start to finish!

Brava to all our Chapin performers! Browse photos HERE.
