Green and Gold spirit was on full display last week during our annual Field Day festivities. Students, faculty and staff came together for the Middle and Upper School Field Day on Thursday, May 21, and the Lower School Field Day on Friday, May 22.
Students in Classes 4-12 traveled to Randall’s Island on Thursday dressed head to toe in vibrant Green and Gold, wearing wigs, face paint, headbands and other spirited attire. They competed in a variety of games, all hoping to secure a win for their Green or Gold team. Activities included kickball, capture the gator, relays, soccer, croquet, ladder toss, limbo, water balloon toss and more, while faculty, staff and students cheered enthusiastically from the sidelines.
The Upper School also held their annual tug-of-war competitions, with all grades competing for victory. Kudos to Class 11 Greens for emerging victorious!
As heavier rain began to fall at Randall’s Island, the community headed back at 100 East End Avenue to wrap up the day. The final activity — the beloved faculty and student relay race — took place in the Athletic Center. Congratulations to Eva J., Mana B., Summer D. Natalie Y., Head of US Arts Integration Sam Sherman and Associate Athletic Director Maddie Gier for coming out on top.
Directly following, the Upper School Athletics President — along with the Green and Gold captains — unveiled the flag of the team that had won the most points throughout the year (including Field Day), sparking loud cheers from the Green team as they celebrated their victory.
To close out a fun-filled day, the seniors joined hands, encircling the rest of the Upper School community, and led the singing of the School Song.

On Friday, the Lower School community traveled to Asphalt Green for their own Field Day celebration. Fun abounded as the girls — not yet designated Greens or Golds — participated in relay races, soccer games, limbo challenges, hula hoop hopscotch, hurdles and more on rainbow colored teams!

A huge thank you to our Physical Education and Athletics Teams for their dedication and hard work in organizing and leading two fantastic Field Days! We are so proud of our students for demonstrating teamwork, sportsmanship and Chapin spirit throughout both events. Go Green and Gold!
