Celebrating the Season of Gratitude

Celebrating the Season of Gratitude

Chapin students, from Kindergarten to Class 12, have been celebrating this season of giving. For this year’s Miss Chapin Project, the School has partnered with Grassroots Grocery, an organization committed to helping combat food insecurity in New York. Students and community members of all ages have donated time and items, packaged sandwiches for donation, driven bundles of produce to local community fridges and more to help further Grassroots Grocery’s mission.

Chapin’s annual Thanksgiving Food Drive was also held throughout the month of November with Kindergarten through Class 11 students collecting 1,300 items this year to distribute to LSA Family Services, New York Common Pantry and Grassroots Grocery. Funds from Class 12 also provided for approximately 40 turkeys. In addition, on Tuesday, November 26, a Baked Goods Collection was held, the donations from which were given to the Holy Trinity and St. Joseph’s Thanksgiving meal program, which delivers Thanksgiving meals to homebound New Yorkers. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who donated or volunteered to bag or deliver the food.

Of course, the season would not be complete without the traditional Thanksgiving Assembly: A Celebration of Harvest and Gratitude. Donning the beloved fruit crowns, Kindergarten through Class 3 girls sang a beautiful medley of songs during three concerts to celebrate the harvest. (November 22 for professional community and Class 4-12 students, November 25 for K and Class 1 parents/guardians and November 26 for Class 2 and 3 parents/guardians.)

“I am grateful for this very special gathering here in the Assembly Room, which reflects the beauty of our Chapin community,” said Head of School Suzanne Fogarty in her Assembly remarks. She closed by sharing the apt words of Chapin’s 4th Head of School, Mrs. Berendsen: “‘Let us all be conspicuous by our integrity, by our curiosity, by our application of excellence and our kindness to one another.’”
