“Today is a momentous day, not only for these student-athletes but for their families, coaches, teammates and our school community,” began Director of Athletics Bridget Carlin on the morning of March 11.
Seated at a table beside her — adorned with green linens and flanked by Green and Gold balloon arches — sat three seniors: Yasmeen Best, Aria Bevacqua and Eve Krinsky.
It was a momentous day, indeed, as these three members of the Class of 2026 were signing their letters of intent to play their respective sports at the collegiate level. (Yasmeen, volleyball; Aria, fencing; and Eve, golf.) The students’ families, Head of School Suzanne Fogarty, members of the professional community and Upper School friends gathered in the Assembly Room to celebrate this incredible achievement.
“Signing to compete at the collegiate level represents more than athletic talent,” Ms. Carlin continued. “It reflects years of sacrifice, hard work, and long hours perfecting their craft. It’s a testament to their commitment to something greater than themselves.” She went on to praise each athlete’s character as well as their perseverance, integrity and leadership.
Ms. Carlin thanked the students’ coaches and Chapin’s professional community, and offered special thanks to their families for “being their constant support system.”
Next, each athlete’s coach had the chance to say a few words. First up was Elizabeth Tartakovsky who praised Aria for being “incredibly kind, passionate and a great teammate.” Today, Elizabeth noted, was a celebration of years of hard work and dedication. Aria, she said, is “a fighter and I have no doubts that she will continue to do great things.”
Rachel Olinyk spoke of Yasmeen’s “unique ability to lead and her focus when I was speaking – she always makes direct eye contact.” Rachel also noted that only approximately 5.8% of female volleyball players get the chance to compete at the college level. “Yasmeen commands the respect she’s earned,” Rachel said. “Her name says it all – she’s the best!”
Eve’s coach, Chris Toulson, who “had the great fortune” of meeting Eve and her family 13 years ago, “could tell quickly” that she had an abundance of talent and a playful and positive energy. He emphasized that Eve “is a delight to teach” and, year after year, has consistently given 100% effort. “Eve has had unfailing support from those at Chapin,” Chris said.
Their accomplishments are no small feat and we couldn’t be prouder of Yasmeen, Aria and Eve. We wish them all the best as they go out into the world and pursue their dreams!
