Head of School Patricia T. Hayot hosted the annual series of decades lunches at Chapin this fall to welcome back alumnae to 100 East End Avenue. These gatherings are always celebratory occasions in which classmates meet alumnae from neighboring class years and all are able to spend time with Dr. Hayot. Alumnae from the Classes of 1944 to 1964 gathered in the Berendsen Room on October 14; those in the Classes of 1965 to 1990 convened on October 28; and the final luncheon for the Classes of 1991 to 2015 was held on November 4.
The group that attended this year’s lunches was inspired by a presentation given by Jack Cooley, head of the Middle School science department. Mr. Cooley told the alumnae about Chapin’s Class 4 and 5 students’ participation in the Billion Oyster Project's (billionoysterproject.org) oyster restoration program. In this program, which is woven into the Middle School science curriculum, the girls show their dedication to being Brave for Our Earth by making regular trips each year to the East 90th Street Ferry Landing on the East River.
