Alumnae Career Workshop 2017

Alumnae Career Workshop 2017

On May 17, 2017, Chapin alumnae returned to 100 East End Avenue for a night of career-centered workshops and networking with fellow alumnae who work across all industries. The Alumnae Career Workshop featured three group sessions led by Chapin alumnae and concluded with a reception over light refreshments and (of course) Chapin's famous brownies. It was a wonderful night of learning, networking and reconnecting with friends. Read below to learn more about the event's workshop offerings.

Managing the First Decade of Your Career:

Led by Danielle Lefkoff Hair '90, Director of People Operations at Google, this workshop focused on how to build resiliency and confidence during the first ten years of your career. Danielle spoke to her fellow alumnae about a variety of helpful topics including how to manage yourself, your work relationships and your future, what Google looks for in an employee, and how to navigate the adversity women face in the workplace. She also shared her advice on how to authentically share your accomplishments with your manager and how to rise above imposter syndrome and workplace microagressions.

Getting Unstuck:

Life Coach and Founder of Megan Hellerer Coaching, Megan Hellerer '02, led this interactive workshop, which focused on how to create a career and life that you love. She inspired the alumnae present to dream bigger, imagine the one thing they would do if they could do anything, and think about the concrete steps they can take to get there. Megan led the group through a few life-coaching exercises and shared her advice on how to discover your unique purpose and set yourself on a path to transformation and success.

To MBA or Not to MBA? That is the Question:

This discussion-based workshop moderated by Kim Karetsky Krinsky '95 (MBA, Columbia Business School), featured panelists Kerry Burke '04 (MBA, Kellogg School of Management), Kimberly Ingraham Evans '96 (CFA), Eden Hammond '03 (MBA, Harvard University), and Betty Wong Ortiz '90 (Executive MBA, NYU Stern). The group shared their unique experiences with the alumnae present and answered their questions on a variety of topics such as the pros and cons of earning an MBA, making the decision between pursuing an MBA, JD or CFA degree, applying for MBA programs as an older candidate, and making the choice between a full-time and part-time program.
