Alumnae Build Connections at Events Focused on the Legal Profession and Life in College
Chapin alumnae kicked off the new year with a number of events, ensuring that 2013 will be another year in which new connections are made, and old friendships grow stronger.
On January 8, 29 Chapin alumnae who work in law joined Dr. Patricia T. Hayot at the firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell, LLP, for a networking breakfast and panel discussion about the legal profession. Lucy Farr ’88, who is a partner at Davis Polk & Wardell LLP, hosted the event. The panelists — Susan Amron ’76, Chief, Environmental Law Division, New York City Law Department; Pamela Bradford ’80, Executive VP & General Counsel, Calvin Klein, Inc; Sarah Cogan ’74 Partner, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP; and Rachel Ferrari ’88, Assistant DA, Child Abuse Bureau, New York County District Attorney's Office — spoke about a range of topics, including how to develop successful working relationships, how to maintain a work and life balance, and how to continually evolve with the field.
On the following day, January 9, a host of college-age alumnae returned to Chapin to visit with old teachers and to speak with current Chapin students about life at college. The 12 alumnae who spoke to the Upper School students offered advice about building relationships with professors, managing academics and social life and how to get along with roommates. They also provided some retrospective tips about the application process.
Later that day, many of the alumnae stayed to take part in the annual Alumnae Cultural Awareness Program/Cultural Awareness Program/Gay-Straight Alliance Open Meeting. The groups discussed all aspects of diversity, giving a chance for alumnae and students to share their life experiences.
