Over many years, Alexia Quadrani Sachman ’85 built an enviable career on Wall Street, cementing her reputation as a masterful strategist with in-depth experience and industry savvy. She thrived in leadership positions at top firms and relished the energy and challenge of the financial world.
“From 1997 to 2022, I worked in equity research as a media analyst for Bear Stearns, then at J.P. Morgan,” she said. “It was a great career. I ran my own group, and we beat own our own drum.”
Then, earlier this year, an unexpected professional door opened. Alexia learned about a job possibility, but it would require her to pivot into somewhat unfamiliar territory. She was intrigued but nervous too. “I was hesitant to take a chance,” she recalled. After much consideration, she decided to accept an offer from the Walt Disney Company, joining one of the largest and most recognizable media and entertainment companies in the world.
“I’m now the Senior Vice President of Investor Relations at Disney,” said Alexia, who began in March. “It’s fascinating to do something different and incredible how much I’m learning.”
In her small team, Alexia communicates with the investor community, keeping them informed about risk assessment and investment outlook. She also acts as a strategic advisor to the CEO and senior management, particularly around shareholder information.
Without a doubt, the skills Alexia honed at J.P. Morgan and Bear Stearns have set her up for success in her integral role at Disney. “I know media companies, and I understand how Wall Street works and how investors think,” she said. Plus, she added, “I’m working with an amazing group of people. They are so kind, intelligent and welcoming.”
With a son still in high school, Alexia remains in New York, flying frequently to Disney’s Burbank, California headquarters. Her daughter, Julia Sachman, also attended Chapin, graduating with the Class of 2018, which fills Alexia with immeasurable pride. “I am very grateful to Chapin,” she exclaimed. “My daughter had such a fantastic experience. She blossomed and became super confident.”
Alexia’s time at Chapin was positive as well. In addition to noting the deep friendships she fostered, she said, “Chapin was incredibly strong academically. I gained an appreciation for literature and developed my writing skills.” A number of teachers stand out in her memory, including Mrs. Nicky Stout Chapin’52, who taught history, and the late Monsieur de Comminges, a legendary French teacher. Alexia also credits her “wonderful parents” for supporting her during her years at Chapin and beyond.
Seeking a co-ed experience prior to college, Alexia elected to go to boarding school for her last two years of high school, a transition that proved seamless. “In my introductory English class, I got to do an independent study because I’d read all the books,” she said. “I was so well prepared.”
She decided to pursue her bachelor’s degree at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. Her European background – she has relatives in Italy and even lived there as a child – “shaped my upbringing” and helped ignite a passion for global studies. Following Georgetown, Alexia earned an MBA in finance from New York University.
Outside of work, it is no surprise that Alexia is an enthusiastic and ambitious traveler, counting Argentina and Japan among her favorite places to visit. She also loves to swim, ski and relax with her kids.
Settled into an invigorating day-to-day routine at Disney, Alexia continues to prioritize the value of mentorship, carving out time to guide her younger colleagues. She’s quick to offer similar advice for Chapin students or alums who are just starting out or taking a step forward in their careers: “Believe in yourself, have confidence and be bold,” she said. “You deserve to be here.”
