Transportation

Many transportation options are available for students to travel to and from Chapin. Parents may choose the form of transportation that suits their family best. Here is a summary of some services that Chapin families currently use.

Atlantic Express Bus

For families who live within a five-mile radius of Chapin

  • Parents contact Mr. Sullivan or Mrs. Kaissar at Chapin to arrange for use of this service.
  • Service is provided, free of charge, by the New York City Board of Education.
  • There are only a few days on which the Board of Education does not provide service. On those rare occasions, parents will need to arrange for alternate transportation to and from Chapin.
  • Routes are determined by the Board of Education and have been convenient for our families.

Confirmed routes will be published in late August.

  • There must be at least 11 confirmed Chapin girls on each route or the service will be cancelled.
  • Students on the bus may consist of Chapin girls plus other children who attend schools in the area.
  • This bus is available to Kindergarten girls only in the morning.
  • Girls may not bring play dates on their assigned bus unless the play date is also a rider on Atlantic Express.
  • There are no chaperones.
  • Students who ride the bus are not eligible for MetroCards.

Cupie Bus Service

For families who live between 57th and 96th Streets, from East End Avenue to Fifth Avenue

  • There are three bus routes that have stops located primarily on Park Avenue.
  • There is a fee for the bus, determined by ridership.
  • A chaperone is provided for each bus.

Round-trip service is offered to students in Kindergarten through Class 6. Class 6 girls have the option ride the bus one-way. Buses for Middle School girls in Classes 4 through 6 leave Chapin at 3:15 p.m. and 4:05 p.m. During part of the school year, there is also an additional 4:15 p.m. bus on Thursdays for Class 6 Intramurals students.
