Chapin lesson plan recognized

One of the great things about the World Wide Web is how easy it makes it for educators and students to share information. If a great teacher has devised a great lesson, why not make it available to a wider audience through the Web? That is the exact reasoning behind Columbia University’s Asia for Educators site. This portal provides students and teachers with a variety of resources about Asian history and culture, including lesson plans and discussion questions.

Upper School art history teacher Christine Naitove created a lesson plan titled How to Read a Chinese Hand Scroll: The Kangxi Emperor’s Southern Inspection Tour, which Asia for Educators has selected to feature online. Her lesson includes background information and instructions for a student exercise in analyzing two different painted scrolls. Ms. Naitove’s work supports a module on the Web site devoted to the Qing dynasty, and her lesson can now be used by schools across the world.
