Life Skills
We demonstrate our commitment to each students social, physical and emotional growth through our Life Skills program, an age-appropriate and developmentally focused sequence for grades Kindergarten through 12. We inspire our girls to become good public speakers and self-advocates, to have healthy bodies and body image, and to be empathic, effective communicators. We have developed a social and emotional support system that adapts to our students needs, and we make full-time professional counselors and trained faculty advisors accessible to the girls. Chapin seeks to prepare its girls to thrive, not merely survive.
The Life Skills program offers tools for dealing with the stress of adolescence in the modern world. Its messages and methods are carried from the classrooms into the hallways, dining room and playgrounds as framework for a universal atmosphere of respect and fairness.
A thorough and complex mix of programs and activities addresses the following major themes: self-advocacy, community, friendships and other relationships, decision-making in social situations, and physical and emotional well-being. Girls achieve a deeper understanding of themselves and other people as individuals through the life skills program.
