In the Annenberg Center for Learning and Research, Chapin's library, students learn to be life-long readers, independent information seekers and keen evaluators of information. Step into the library at any time of the day to find students actively engaged in reading and the pursuit of information: searching on laptops, poring over reference books, curled up with a book in a favorite corner or discussing homework assignments.

Located in the center of the school, the library offers places for both quiet study and group discussion, computer research and novel reading. Its 10,000 square feet enclose a multimedia classroom, a periodical area, computer workstations, several group-study rooms, individual study desks and comfortable reading areas, as well as library collections for Lower, Middle and Upper School readers.

Students receive research instruction and reading encouragement from the three full-time librarians in library classes, research-project help sessions and individual conversations throughout the school day. Research instruction focuses on helping girls to develop the skills and strategies to locate and evaluate information from both print and online sources.

The Library's collection — now more than 43,000 volumes — includes books, videos, audio books, CDs and DVDs. The library subscribes to more than 80 periodicals and has full-text access to hundreds more through online databases. The library catalog and all online resources are available to Chapin students, faculty and staff through the library pages on the Chapin Web site, enabling access from both home and school.
