The drama program at Chapin is based equally on performance and the creative process. From the Lower and Middle School programs, girls are empowered to form intellectual and aesthetic judgments, to develop personal resources, and to relate course material to its social context.  We model and foster in our students the courage to take creative risks and to have an open mind to new ideas and unfamiliar situations.

Theater is a collaborative discipline. Interdisciplinary coursework with the art, dance, history and music departments is fundamental to the program while courses in theater history, playwriting, public speaking and historical drama support and enrich more performance-oriented courses and extracurricular opportunities.

"Drama" means to do in Greek, and at Chapin, girls do everything from hanging lights and building scenery to acting and directing. Student directors, designers and playwrights apply their skills while developing a personal and independent creative voice.
