Dance
The Chapin dance department is grounded in the philosophy that dance promotes artistic, social and emotional development. All students participate in dance from Kindergarten through Class 9 and are offered a wide range of electives in Classes 10 through 12.
The Lower School curriculum is based on the principles of creative movement and emphasizes activities that promote individuality, creativity and imagination. Middle School students focus on technical and choreographic skills based in modern dance, ballet, yoga and on building self-confidence through in-class performance. The Upper School curriculum explores interdisciplinary collaboration, composition and jazz technique and offers electives in ballet, modern, jazz, yoga, dance composition, African dance, Capoeira and musical theater. Chapin is unique in its recognition of dance as an integral part of education.
