Employment @ Chapin
The Chapin School seeks faculty members who are able to transmit their knowledge with enthusiasm to students. Candidates should have an interest in contributing to the growth and development of each individual student and to the overall quality of school life. Qualifications vary with different positions and within the three divisions of the school. Teachers with diverse interests and talents outside their classroom subject bring strength and flexibility to our academic program.
Chapin believes strongly in offering professional development programs for its teachers, and staff members have the opportunity to learn both from their colleagues and from external programs and mentors. The wide range of classes, extracurricular activities, and personal development programs that Chapin offers its students also allows teachers to stretch and develop their own skills and experiences.
New Chapin teachers enjoy an extensive orientation process that introduces them to the school and its culture. In addition to a full slate of introductory meetings with department heads, administrators, and the full staff in the late summer and early fall, faculty members are paired with a buddy teacher who supports and guides the new teacher through the first weeks of school. New teachers also receive a mentor who makes informal visits to his or her classes and offers constructive advice.
Perhaps the most important resource for new Chapin teachers are weekly meetings with academic departments, grade-level cluster groups, and department heads. These meetings provide the answers to many administrative and curricular questions and also allow every teacher to participate in curriculum planning. At Chapin, the new teacher is seen as a valuable resource, a person who can open eyes and minds to innovation.
