Senior individual studies

Each year, Chapin seniors are given the opportunity to complete an individual study, a term-long project on a topic of their choice. If a student’s project is approved, she works closely with a faculty adviser who guides her in her work, and at the end of the term she presents the project to faculty and students. The study can take many forms, from analytical essay to scientific research to documentary film to dance performance to artwork.
This term, eight seniors completed individual studies, including a comparative study of four Polynesian societies, a paper on the novelist Kurt Vonnegut and a study of a Civil War soldier’s letters. Three seniors also completed art projects: Jackie Bach, whose project FACE: New York looks at the city through collage; Madeline Lieberberg, whose Transformations through Printmaking investigates the possibilities of visual repetition; and Charlotte Brown, whose A Girl of Two Worlds compares, photographically, Memphis and New York City.
