Delivering art with dinner
By Andrew Seguin
Community service and leadership came together on Tuesday, October 3, as girls in Classes 4 and 7 sprawled on the floor of the Assembly Room to decorate white paper bags with an assortment of colored markers. The event was part of the Middle School “big sister/little sister” program, in which each Class 7 girl helps a Class 4 partner to adjust to life in the Middle School. But this project also found the girls looking outward to others in need of help. The bags they cheerfully decorated with pumpkins, leaves and other fall motifs will eventually carry a nutritious meal from God’s Love We Deliver, an organization that provides healthy lunches and dinners to people living with serious illnesses such as cancer and HIV/AIDS. Working with God’s Love We Deliver has become a tradition at Chapin, and in the spring the girls will again put their artistry to good use, ensuring that dinner arrives in bright packaging. The recipients of the meals will likely smile as much upon receiving the bags as the girls do in making them.
