A Night of Tropical Magic
Chapin held its 23rd Annual Benefit this year on Friday, May 5th at Manhattan's Latin dance club, the Copacabana. The theme, "A Night of Tropical Magic," brought students, parents, faculty, staff, trustees and other members of the Chapin community together to celebrate the wonderful work Chapin does throughout the year.
Organized by Benefit Committee Co-Chairs, Helen Lee and Carleen Simone, both of whom are Chapin parents, the Benefit offered fun for every age group. Entertainment included five roving "sleight of hand" magicians, virtual reality water skiing, a CD recording studio, carnival games, the popular Dance Revolution and the teen band Jonas Brothers, a splendid array of delicious foods, dancing, and, of course, DJ Kast One from Hot 97.
The Volunteer Committee, headed by parents, Michele Jeffery, Stacy Pinelli and Sue Ryeom, greeted guests with tropical leis and flower bracelets. Craft Co-Chairs, Dorcas Colas and Faith Coolidge set up and oversaw the craft area, which included stringing candy leis, decorating teddy bears, making personal scrap books and coloring t-shirts bearing the event's palm tree motif. The tree was drawn by Chapin parent Holly Cunningham, whose beautiful evening beach scene watercolor was featured on the cover the Benefit invitation.
The Chapin Family Benefit recognized, with fun and festivity, a year of accomplishments by talented people who allow the school to maintain its tradition of excellence. We thank you for participating and making this year’s event a tremendous success.
