Slime for Sale

By E. Mendelsohn

Every year, the Chapin science club has two major projects. They create a magnificent magic show and use their knowledge of chemistry to prepare coveted items for sale at the school fair. With the fair only a couple weeks away, the science club members have been busy tie-dyeing shirts and making slime out of chemical compounds and a few secret ingredients.

The science club is open to all students in Upper School. The current members, girls Classes 8 to 11, meet once a week to enjoy one another’s company and participate in science-inspired and inspiring projects. Besides the magic show and the school fair sale, science club activities include making liquid nitrogen ice cream, watching movies, fund-raising bake sales, or, according to science club faculty advisor Dr. Mary Moller, “just hanging around chatting”. She adds, “Science Club is not just for science nerds. We welcome anyone who enjoys science, and hopefully we may encourage someone to pursue science.”
